Juneteenth Baking Class

Celebrate Juneteenth through science, sweetness, and storytelling! At our Juneteenth Baking & STEM Celebration, children will explore the rich cultural history behind red velvet cake—a dessert with deep roots in African American culinary traditions. Kids will measure, mix, and learn about the chemistry of baking as they create their very own mini red velvet cakes.

Then, we’ll turn up the fizz with a hands-on soda-making lab! Using safe kitchen chemistry, participants will craft a fizzy, fruity drink we call Freedom Fizz—a red, sparkling symbol of joy, independence, and innovation.

Along the way, we'll reflect on the meaning of Juneteenth, honoring freedom, creativity, and the powerful legacy of Black inventors, chefs, and scientists.
